Have at you!

Recipes

The high school gang and I met up at Greenbelt 3 yesterday to watch Thor. The movie wasn’t scheduled to start until 1:10pm so we decided to have lunch first. We ended up eating at Recipes, where we were extremely glad that the air conditioning was on at full blast (summers in Manila can be torture!).

Recipes has been around for quite a number of years and I’ve already dined there once before (with the family). I don’t remember anything special about the restaurant, but it wasn’t necessarily bad. I guess it was a case of the servings being too small for the amount of money that you have to shell out.

Recipes_General's chickenGeneral’s Chicken. I don’t remember having this before, but I’m really happy The Best Friend recommended this dish: Fried boneless chicken pieces and eggplant slices covered in sweet, sticky sauce. Kind of reminded me of some of my favorite Chinese dishes.

Recipes_gising gisingGising gising. This dish is made of beans and pork with coconut milk. It has a bit of a kick to it and will remind you of the famous Bicol Express. Definitely one of the things I enjoyed the most.

Recipes_fried tilapiaFried tilapia. I didn’t find anything special about this dish, but Den did find the vinegar sauce delicious. She was eating it on its own. 🙂

Recipes_tapaBeef tapa with fried egg. Mike was the last to arrive in our group of six, and since we’ve already devoured all the food (haha), he decided to order a platter for one instead. I didn’t hear any complaints from him about the food and he even posted his meal on his Plurk account, so I’m guessing it was decent.

In the end, I still don’t think Recipes is a rare gem in the Philippine food industry, but it served its purpose in giving us a filling meal and a place where all six of us were able to catch up with each other so that’s good enough for me. 🙂
