Have at you!

Johnny Rockets

Posted on: October 16, 2011

My Best Friend is going to leave Manila today to start her new job someplace else in the Philippines. The number of days between the time the job was offered to her and her departure date was very few so I was really thankful that we still had time to have lunch together last week.

We were supposed to eat at an eat-all-you-can Japanese restaurant along EDSA, but after having us wait for almost an hour, we were curtly informed by the waitress that we were moved down the list because some groups under their so-called priority list arrived and that we had to wait longer. Another server was encouraging us to transfer to their other buffet areas because the place was about to close at 2PM and there was no guarantee that we will still be served fresh food. Talk about great customer service! 😐

We decided to leave and go to Eastwood City to look for another place to eat. After a few minutes of discussion, we decided to eat at Johnny Rockets.

Johnny Rockets_jukeboxJohnny Rockets’ mini jukeboxes: The Boyfriend had a grand time with this. He selected 4 or 5 songs and was really waiting for them to play out loud in the diner. 😀

Johnny Rockets_strawberry and chocolate milkshakesStrawberry and Chocolate Malt milkshakes. These don’t look like much simply because a serving has already been split into two glasses each. We had it shared among the three of us. I found them a bit too thick, but still delicious. There were a lot of milkshake options (including peanut butter, banana, etc.), but we decided to stick with the usual ones for this visit.

Johnny Rockets_bacon cheddar singleThe Best Friend ordered the Bacon Cheddar (Single) with onion rings (Php395 + Php50). We were all ravenous so she managed to eat the entire burger on her own. I think it was quite a big feat for her. 😛

Johnny Rockets_smoke houseThe Boyfriend’s choice for the afternoon was this hefty burger called the Smoke House (Php485), also ordered with onion rings (Php50). He was clearly thrilled since he couldn’t stop raving about it, especially the bacon and the cheese inside. He said he preferred the onion rings from New York Pizza Palace though.

Johnny Rockets_streamlinerI had a hard time choosing between the chicken burger or the vegetarian burger. I’ve been having chicken burgers for quite some time and it was going to be my first time to try a meatless version. My curiosity got the best of me and I decided to order the Streamliner (Php465), which was basically a burger patty made out of soya beans and stuffed in a bun along with mountains of shredded lettuce, grilled onions (which I LOVED), tomatoes and pickles. I didn’t change the sides and stuck with their unlimited serving of fries so that we could all share. The Boyfriend thought I was crazy for picking the vegetarian version, but agreed that it tasted pretty good after being able to take a big bite out of it. 🙂

I think it’s an understatement for me to say that we were completely stuffed after that meal. None of us felt like having dinner later that day. 😛 It was a great experience though and I wouldn’t mind going back, but will probably settle with sharing a burger with my companions. I don’t want to feel that full again! 😛 Maybe my Best Friend and I can go back there to catch up when she has time to visit Manila on her rest days. 🙂

Johnny Rockets can be a nice place to visit. It’s definitely a nostalgic visit. Although I like making my own burgers, they have nice food as well. Wonderful review
